THE RECORD WORKSHOP

Turn audio into record grooves.

A free WAV and MP3 to STL, SVG and DXF converter for laser-cut and 3D-printed records.

01

Choose your audio

WAV / MP3

Start with a short test. Audio is trimmed to the selected length or disc capacity.

02

Set up your record

Fine-tune geometry & output

Blank values use the preset. The report shows your final geometry.

From the first file to the first playback

Choose a method and learn how geometry, material, and fabrication settings shape the result. The converter runs in your browser with audio processing on the server.

3D-printed records

Convert a WAV or MP3 into an STL record. Compare resin and FDM grooves, choose a preset, and prepare a short playback test.

Laser-cut records

Create record grooves from WAV or MP3 audio for LightBurn, xTool, and Glowforge. Learn about kerf, path splitting, layers, and test cuts.

Bambu printing settings

Starting settings for printing record grooves with 0.4 mm and 0.2 mm nozzles: pitch, layer height, orientation, and troubleshooting.

How grooves work

Understand how Make a Record encodes WAV or MP3 audio in a spiral, and how RPM, groove pitch, sample rate, and modulation affect the result.

A1 mini records

Make a 170 mm record STL for the Bambu A1 mini. Compare 0.4 and 0.2 mm nozzle presets, check bed clearance, and plan a short playback test.

200 mm FDM records

Convert WAV or MP3 audio into a 200 mm STL record for smaller FDM beds. Check printer fit, preserve groove dimensions, and inspect 0.4 mm nozzle toolpaths.

Quick test discs

Use a short WAV or MP3 excerpt to make a 120 mm test record in STL, DXF, or SVG. Check groove fabrication and compare generated audio with real playback.

Can I upload an MP3?

Yes. Upload a WAV or MP3 directly—no conversion beforehand is needed. Both formats support clip selection and all record presets. Stereo audio is mixed to mono, and the listening preview is supplied as a WAV. Use an original WAV when available to avoid the quality loss of MP3 compression.

What can I make?

Export DXF for LightBurn, SVG for xTool P2S or Glowforge, and STL for resin or Bambu/FDM printers. The presets are starting geometries; verify the dimensions and test a short clip on your equipment. A compatible cutter or printer is required to fabricate the record.

Will it sound like a commercial record?

Expect experimental, lo-fi audio. The download includes a preview of the signal encoded into the groove. Real playback also depends on your machine, material, stylus, and disc flatness. Read more about the method and its limitations.
